The Plastic Age

Our Aid to Mother Earth

Spazzatura

We frequently talk about team building activities, but why not stop for a minute and concentrate on the impact that all the materials we use affect our planet’s ecology?

One of the most used and common materials is plastic, a matter that probably people know little about, like the types of plastic or how to recycle it correctly. Because Team Working has always been concerned with the planet, we offer different activities that have no negative impact on the planet, like Crazy Car Race and Body Percussion; this time we want to suggest an alternative-studious look of this very familiar material.

Can we start talking plastic?

Stone age, Bronze age, Iron age… Plastic age! Plastic is the symbol of our age. We are surrounded, invaded: if you look around your desk at least five (yes, five!) objects in front of you are made of plastic: laptop, bottle of water, pen, desktop (if you are trendy), handbag (if you are cruelty free)… infinite objects are made of this material because it looks nice, because it’s cheap, compact and light. But there’s something you may not know: the reality is that every single one of these objects is made from a different type of plastic! In fact, scientifically, the word “plastic” doesn’t define one material, but a series of materials different by origen (diverse polymers, pure or mixed and other elements) and by characteristics (weight, hardness, break-resistence, temperature)…

Why is it useful to identify the different types of plastic? First of all, because they serve different uses: some can be used in microwaves, others can’t; some can preserve foods and drinks, others cannot absolutely be used in the food industry… In second place, to distinguish the different types of plastic is fundamental to recycle correctly. Recycling is not easy if you mix different types of plastic because some can melt at a certain temperature, and others, believe it or not, cannot be melted at all!

So what can we do with the plastic that IS recyclable? What are the procedures and the ways in which recycling happens?

Hang on, hang on! We will tell you, but not just yet… Stay tuned with TeamWorking!
